Logit-normal mixed model for Indian monsoon precipitation
Describing the nature and variability of Indian monsoon precipitation is a topic of much debate in the current literature. We suggest the use of a generalized linear mixed model (GLMM), specifically, the logit-normal mixed model, to describe the underlying structure of this complex climatic event. Four GLMM algorithms are described and simulations are performed to vet these algorithms before ap...
متن کاملSelecting Predictors of Indian Monsoon Identifying Driving Factors behind Indian Monsoon Precipitation Using Model Selection Based on Data Depth
We introduce a novel one-step model selection technique for general regression estimators, and implement it in a linear mixed model setup to identify important predictors affecting Indian Monsoon precipitation. Under very general assumptions, this technique correctly identifies the set of non-zero values in the true coefficient (of length p) by comparing only p+1 models. Here we use wild bootst...
متن کاملDRAFT Identification of the Logit Kernel ( or Mixed Logit ) Model
Logit Kernel is a discrete choice model that has both probit-like disturbances as well as an additive i.i.d. extreme value (or Gumbel) disturbance à la multinomial logit. The result is an intuitive, practical, and powerful model that combines the flexibility of probit (and more) with the tractability of logit. For this reason, logit kernel has been deemed the “model of the future” and is becomi...
متن کاملHalton Sequences for Mixed Logit
The simulation variance in the estimation of mixed logit parameters is found, in our application, to be lower with 100 Halton draws than with 1000 random draws. This finding confirms Bhat’s (1999a) results and implies significant reduction in run times for mixed logit estimation. Further investigation is needed to assure that the result is not quixotic or masking other issues.
متن کاملA Bayesian Mixed Logit-Probit Model for Multinomial Choice
In this paper we introduce a new flexible mixed model for multinomial discrete choice where the key individualand alternative-specific parameters of interest are allowed to follow an assumptionfree nonparametric density specification while other alternative-specific coefficients are assumed to be drawn from a multivariate normal distribution which eliminates the independence of irrelevant alter...
